  • About

''We were never garbage men, we were scavengers'', recalls Joe Garbarino, co-founder of Marin Sanitary Service (MSS). Founded in 1948 by Joe's family and other Italian families that move from San Francisco to Marin County, MSS has grown over the years and today has more than 33,000 residential and commercial clients throughout Central Marin. Today, the company has expanded into three separate divisions and three generations of Garbarinos work at Marin Sanitary Service.

Over the years, the Garbarino family has dedicated their efforts for Marin residents to increase their recycling efforts.
Under Marin Sanitary's Service leadership, more than 74% of Marin County recycles all of their waste, however this civic oriented San Rafael family business has higher green goals they are pursing. Marin Sanitary Service is dedicated to helping reach Marin County?s goal of 94% diversion by 2020. The following zero waste programs are being implemented to help better serve our community
