Rohnert Park, California – The School of Business and Economics (SBE) at Sonoma State University (SSU) today announced that economics students Alexia Martin and Zoe Stuart, both members of the Junior Class, were awarded scholarships for academic excellence by the Department of Economics, to help offset textbook expenses and other costs associated with attending SSU. The Hayes-Lewis Scholarship, earned by Alexia Martin, includes a $500 award to students at the top of their class based on grade point average. The scholarship is named after Emeritus Professors of Economics, Sue Hayes and Steve Lewis, who will present the award during a ceremony on Thursday, April 13 at 12 p.m. in Stevenson Hall, Room 2032. The Ben-Zion Scholarship, awarded to Zoe Stuart in the amount of $3,300, is named after Emeritus Professor of Economics, Barry Ben Zion, and granted annually to foreign-born economics majors with outstanding academic achievement.

“These scholarships demonstrate faculty and student dedication to excellence in the field of economics, both in the classroom and beyond," Dr. Michael Visser, Chair of the Department of Economics said. "We’re grateful to Professors Hayes, Lewis, and Ben Zion, who generously continue to support and recognize student success as part of their legacy at Sonoma State University.”
