We are thrilled to announce and introduce the winner of the San Rafael Chamber Youth Speech Contest. This contest was introduced earlier this year to celebrate and acknowledge the Chamber’s Centennial Anniversary, by inviting San Rafael high school students to submit a speech on the topic of “What will the world look like in the next 100 years?” The intention was for the winner to recite their speech at our State of the City Centennial celebration scheduled for April 4 of this year which has been postponed. We had over 15 phenomenal entries and had an incredibly difficult time choosing a winner. But after careful consideration, a unanimous decision was made and we are thrilled to introduce James Myhre!

James just completed his Junior Year at Marin Catholic High School in San Rafael. He is a San Rafael native and, in his words, ‘loves this city!’. Throughout his entire life, he has always tried to help others. He completed an internship last summer working with the City of San Rafael’s Sustainability Department. Other past accomplishments include volunteering over 200 hours of time to help people in need, working as a beach guard to keep people safe, and devoting his past five summers helping kids as a camp counselor at Marin Lutheran Camp. He is on Mock Trial and Model UN, Varsity Tennis, and is a Sunday school teacher. James currently maintains a 4.3 GPA and always strives to do his best.

As a thank you for our appreciation, we are delighted to present James with a scholarship for $1,000. We also like to acknowledge and thank 2nd place winner Angela Tsai, a Junior at Terra Linda High School, and 3rd place winner Katrina Osborn, also a Junior at Terra Linda High School.

And now, without further ado, take a look and watch James recite his winning speech “What will the world look like in the next 100 years?”!
